What FuzeVPN protects during a call
With the Windows and Android apps, calls from all your apps, WhatsApp, Teams, Zoom or Meet, go through the VPN: the local network cannot see their content, and the people you talk to see the IP address of your FuzeVPN location, not yours.
The extensions protect calls made in the browser, for example Meet, Teams or WhatsApp Web. An app installed on the computer, such as Zoom or Teams, goes through the VPN with the Windows app.
WebRTC and IP address
Browser calls use WebRTC, which can open direct connections. With the apps, these exchanges go through the VPN (on Windows, with the kill switch on, as it is by default). In Chrome, the extension blocks these direct connections by default.
To check, run our WebRTC test with the VPN connected: the address shown should be that of your FuzeVPN location.
If a call drops or crackles
Nearby location
Choose the location closest to you or to the person you are calling: less distance, less latency.
Protocol
Disconnect the VPN, then choose WireGuard or OpenVPN: on Windows, Settings → Connection → VPN protocol; on Android, Connection → Advanced options → Protocol.
Network
Compare Wi-Fi and cable, or move closer to the access point: the stability of the local network matters as much as its speed.
Browser
If Chrome’s WebRTC protection gets in the way of a calling service, make the call with the Windows or Android app.
